The latest technology for earlier detection of breast abnormalities
Garrison Women’s Health (GWH), one of the Seacoast’s top providers in women’s health, is pleased to announce it is the first practice in Dover, NH, to offer 3D mammography.
3D mammography is the industry’s most innovative approach to detecting breast cancer and abnormalities such as tumors and lumps. The state-of-the-art technology reveals a clearer, distinct image of a patient’s breast tissue. It also reduces the chances of doctors seeing a false positive.
While standard 2D mammography provides healthcare providers with a single image, advanced 3D imaging technology captures multiple images of a woman’s breast tissue for earlier and more accurate detection of breast abnormalities. This accuracy also results in reduced callbacks for patients to be retested. The length of the exam and amount of compression is almost identical to a traditional mammogram.
“We are thrilled to be the first women’s health practice in Dover to offer 3D mammography. Our patients’ health and wellbeing is our number one priority,” said Tracey Simmers, practice administrator for Garrison Women’s Health. “3D mammography screenings provide a more detailed, accurate image with greater detection.”
Garrison Women’s Health encourages women over the age of 40 to begin yearly, life-saving screenings. An astounding one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. According to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, mammography is the most effective screening tool used to identify abnormalities and breast cancer. Of note, 90% of women diagnosed with stage one breast cancer survive beyond five years after diagnosis.
“In addition to scheduling yearly screenings, it is important for women to conduct frequent self-breast exams throughout the year,” said Sue Letourneau, registered technologist for radiology and mammography (RTRM) for Garrison Women’s Health. “When examining yourself, if you experience or notice any abnormalities, contact your physician immediately.”
