Menopause

Menopause is the time in a woman’s life when she stops having periods. The years leading up to this point are called perimenopause.

Symptoms of Menopause

One of the most common signs that menopause is approaching is a change in your menstrual periods.

You may skip one or more periods. Your flow may be lighter or heavier and flow may last a shorter or longer time than is usual for you.

What to Expect

Menopause is a natural part of aging. The lower amounts of estrogen made by your ovaries will cause changes to your body. The intensity and duration of these changes varies from woman to woman.

Some common experiences include:

  • Hot Flashes
  • Sleep Problems
  • Vaginal, Urinary Tract and Skin Changes
  • Bone Loss
  • Emotional Changes

When To See a Doctor

It is important to see your doctor in the years leading up to menopause (perimenopause) and the years after menopause (postmenopause) to keep up you’re your routine health care and take advantage of testing that can help prevent or detect health problems early.
