Spotlight on GWHC staff member, Katherine Streeter
When you come in to Garrison Women's Health Center, look for the woman with a British accent sitting in the reception area on a big Yoga ball! Katherine Streeter joined us in February of 2010 and works in all areas of our reception and check out area. (To find her, just look for the Yoga ball!)
Katherine and her husband, Paul, were born and raised in the UK, but have made their permanent home here across the pond. Both of their girls, aged nine and six, were born here and Katherine became a citizen in 2005.
We love Katherine's story of how she met her husband. He had moved to the USA a couple of years before. Katherine saw his reflection in a mirror in a dress shop as she was shopping for her soon-to-be-married cousin. The reflection was overheard saying he was back in England on vacation and was going to be attending a wedding in about six weeks.
She came home and told her roommate that she had seen the man she wanted to marry!
Six weeks later, attending her cousin's wedding - you guessed it! - he was there, attending his cousin's wedding - who just happened to be marrying Katherine's cousin! They carried on a trans-Atlantic relationship by letter for 6 years. When he eventually returned to the UK for a visit, they renewed acquaintance. After many more interesting twists and turns, Katherine indeed married the man she had seen in that shop those many years ago!
Katherine's passion is singing. She was in multiple shows and competitions in Great Britain and has recently been able to make time to sing again by joining "Voices from the Heart" in Portsmouth. She spends most of her free time raising her girls, but finds time to be a movie buff! We also understand that she is an exceptional dessert chef!
